My Past History With Red Wiggler
Earthworms is colorful, and could take up a whole book.
See
First Earthworm encounter here,
sounds almost spooky. It sort of is because
I kept the worms and disposed of the
Husbands! Recycling at its best.....
After my first encounter in So. Calif. in
the '70s, I moved to Ft. Worth, Texas, where I worked for a bait dealer who
paid me in Red Wiggler earthworms. A few weeks work, boxes of red
worms quickly resulted in over 15 full worm beds with out any fast, simple
means of removing the vermicompost. I just feed, watered and cared for
them.
About this time the "fly by night"
earthworm salesmen were hitting the country, with all their wild promises of
"get rich quick". BUT, they were selling the earthworm beds, NOT the
vermicompost. THEY could NOT get it out of the beds to sell...
The stigmatism of their tactics still haunt old timer worm growers. I
abandoned my dreams for a few years and got a job. The earthworms and
their wonderful performance stayed with me.
Where, why and when AVSA was born, the unique features and why they were
invented that way.
Recycling with earthworms
(vermicomposting), and making a good life for myself and the others that
share this "Big Blue Marble" has been a continual dream, goal of mine and
I'm sure will remain through out the remainder of my years.
The first encounter left a lasting
impression. After the birth of AVSA, then the T-Dome homes and world,
national and local disasters, I can now see the long term reason that I was
led down this path. To help others discover safe means of providing
themselves with shelter, food and recycling their waste back into the system
as started by mother nature herself on this Big Blue Marble, millenniums
ago.
